Greetings RCRC Jr. Crew Parents!
For those of you new to the world of rowing: Welcome!
Although there's a lot to learn about this exciting sport, we think you'll find being a crew parent rewarding, inspiring and fun. Veteran RCRC Jr. Crew parents are eager to help you become aquainted with the sport and rowing community and look forward to your involvement.
For returning parents, welcome back, and get ready for another fabulous year of rowing, camaraderie and fun for your kids.
Parent Booster Club: A new feature of RCRC Jr. Crew!
For the past many years, a small, rotating group of parents has served on an RCRC parent board, complete with officers, by-laws etc. The parent board's role was sometimes hard to delineate from the main River City Rowing Club Board of Directors. This structure also seemed to limit the involvement of the other parents in many functions important to a strong Jr. Club. So, when River City Rowing Club became an official non-profit organization early in 2009, the parent board voted to transfer many operational responsibilities for the Jr. Crew over to the main Board of Directors starting with the 2009-2010 season. Among these responsibilities are recruiting, hiring and paying coaches and all accounting functions. (The RCRC Board also purchases and maintains equipment and manages the boat houses)
. This transfer of responsibilities frees up parents to put time and effort into enhancing enhancing our kids' experience as rowers, supporting our coaches and helping to strengthen the club (see Committees section for more details about our responsibilities). We are now a booster club and we anticipate that all Jr. Crew parents will enjoy playing a role in the Club's success.

Volunteer Requirements
In order to ensure that the RCRC Jr. Crew is a strong and well-functioning club, parents of each crew member are asked to volunteer in some capacity in the Fall and/or Spring season. Although we don't currently track the number of volunteer hours recorded by each family, 10-12 hours over the course of the year is asked of each family (excluding carpooling!) The easiest way to ensure that you're doing your part is to choose 1 or 2 committees to serve on; simply contact the committee chairperson and you will be contacted by them as needed. Also, coaches will have requests throughout the year for volunteers to help with races.
Monthly Meetings
The RCRC Jr. Crew Parent Booster Club meets at 7pm on the second Tuesday of each month at the Roundtable Pizza in the Target/Pheasant Club near the port in West Sacramento. All Parents are encouraged to attend. Committees will report on current activities, the Head Coach will give an update and parent's questions, suggestions and concerns will be addressed.
